THE GORDON FLYER

Ayr and District Model Flyers have been able to have access to a club trainer for several years, this would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the generous gift to the club by long time modeller and member of the original Girvan Model club member Ian Gordon. Unfortunately Ian left the original Girvan Model club before it became Ayr and District Model Flyers to relocate to Spain several years ago.

Before he moved to Spain he decided to donate his  trainer to Ayr and District Model Flyers as a club trainer. James Stewart the club secretary and club instructor took possession of the trainer and has since looked after it.  James uses the trainer when potential club members want to try their hand at model flying to see if they like model flying before taking the plunge and investing in the sport of model flying. James also uses the trainer for back up if any trainee has a crash or break down when flying their own model. There have been many a club member trained with this model.

James says the trainer was becoming untidy and needed a refurbishment so he decided to recover the model and tidy it up. James decided it should get some type of Logo on it along with Harry Cruickshank's a good friend of Ian Gordon for many years. Harry decided to design a logo for the model and name the trainer the Gordon Flyer as a credit to the workman ship that went into building the model as Ian Gordon was well known as one of the best builders the club has had over the years and all credit to Ian the Model is still flying. Harry says the model is approx sixteen years old and James says the model has had many hours flying and since being donated to the club and has went through three engines. The club is truly thankfull to having a club trainer that has survived all these years with out having any crashes or mishaps. There will not be many clubs around that have had a club trainer that has lasted as long . This would not have been possible if it had not been for Ian Gordon.
